Sunrise to Starlight Wedding
Jenni & Sean’s elopement wasn’t built around tradition — it was built around experience.
When they first reached out in 2023, they envisioned a day that felt adventurous, intentional, and deeply personal. What followed became one of my first true adventure elopements where my role extended beyond photography. Together, we created their itinerary, navigated permits, sourced vendors, and carefully mapped out timing so every moment could unfold naturally within the park’s landscape.
This day felt less like planning a wedding and more like preparing for a meaningful journey.

Sunrise on the Trail
Their day began at 4:30 AM, setting out on the Lost Mine Trail, a 5-mile round-trip hike with roughly 1,100 feet of elevation gain.
Jenni started the climb in a white sweatsuit and boots, her custom gown from Etsy tucked away, while Sean carried his suit so they could change at the summit. As sunrise painted the mountains, they paused to write their vows — quietly reflecting before speaking them later in the day.
That stillness on the mountaintop felt sacred.
River Vows at Santa Elena Canyon
After descending, taking time to rest and share lunch, the next chapter led us to Santa Elena Canyon. Towering limestone walls surrounded the Rio Grande River, a quiet yet powerful passage between Texas and Mexico.
Standing in the river, Jenni & Sean exchanged the vows they had written that morning.
My husband, Austin, officiated their ceremony after spending time the night before learning their story over dinner so the ceremony could feel deeply personal. Their parents and siblings joined for this moment, blending intimacy with shared celebration.
Following family photos, everyone exited toward Terlingua, where we stayed for the weekend.

Blue Hour Portraits at Sotol Vista Overlook
Before dinner, we made one final scenic stop at Sotol Vista for sweeping views of Big Bend. Sunset slipped past us, but blue hour arrived with its own magic.
Jenni had specifically requested lantern photos, and as their soft glow illuminated the desert twilight, the moment felt cinematic yet incredibly intimate — the perfect visual reflection of their day.
Dinner, Stars & Celebration
Jenni & Sean invited Austin and me to join their families for dinner at Starlight Canyon Resort, turning what could have been a vendor meal into a shared celebration filled with laughter and storytelling.
Big Bend’s recognition as an International Dark Sky region meant the night concluded beneath breathtaking stars — a quiet reminder of both the vastness of creation and the significance of the promises they had made throughout the day.
When an Elopement Becomes Something More
As the evening wound down, none of us felt quite ready for the experience to end.
There was a shared understanding that what had unfolded over the weekend was more than a wedding day. It was a bonding experience built on vulnerability, trust, adventure, and shared presence in some of the most breathtaking landscapes imaginable.
We promised to keep in touch — not out of politeness, but out of genuine connection. What began as a photography inquiry in 2023 had quietly grown into the start of a friendship. And honestly, that’s one of the most beautiful parts of this work. The couples I get to walk alongside carry a certain gravity — drawing me into their stories, inviting me into deeply meaningful moments, and allowing me to witness experiences that forever shape my own life. I am endlessly grateful for that privilege.
Jenni & Sean’s elopement was a reminder that weddings don’t have to be grand to be profound.
Sometimes the most powerful celebrations are the ones rooted in intention, adventure, and connection — not only between a couple, but among everyone who walks alongside them.
